“Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men…They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.” (Psalms 12:1-2)
Doesn’t it feel sometimes like there just aren’t any more godly men around? That there’s no such thing as a “faithful man” or a good, loving heart? I mean, there’s tons of nitwits out there—everywhere you look—left and right. Guys who grin at you and laugh with you, but guys that have a double heart. Guys that are more interested in looking at their own reflection, than at you. Guys who can’t get over themselves—with vanity driven thoughts and actions that only bring you heart ache. Guys that will toss you away, laughing all the while, “Off with the old, on with the new! Next!”
So where are the good guys? We see Mr. Wrong everywhere. Any time. All the time. But…where is the one? Has the godly man really ceased? Is there really none faithful in this sinful, selfish generation???
Through our eyes, yes, perhaps it is true. But our eyes can’t see very far—not far at all, really. So why not just quit trying to look through our limited eyes, and let God do the looking and the finding?
And sometimes, if you feel most discouraged from looking through those eyes of yours, you might breath the words, just like the psalmist, “Help, Lord…” All the while, letting God do the rest.
