People are always going to have something to say to you. They’ll always have advice. They’ll always have expectations, ideas, necessities for your life. Sometimes it’s people we love—people we think we ought to listen to. And maybe we should. Maybe we’re too young to make up our own minds, to shape our future, to handle life-changing decisions in our feeble hands…
Now it’s here. The crossroads. All the decisions that balance our very life. Our parents, pastor, friends, family—they’re all going to have something to say about it. All implanting little inklings of doubt or ideas into our heads, pushing us towards a certain direction, guiding us.
And we should listen to them. After all, they love us most, right?
But it can’t end there. It can’t stop at our own feelings and everyone else’s advice. It has to go further. Much further. It has to go to Heaven and back. It has to go to the throne room.
We have to get on our knees. We have to seek the face of the living God. We have to learn to pray, to beg, to hear His whisper—even though it’s so soft that sometimes we can’t hear—even though sometimes our prayers seem to hit the ceiling and go no further.
But they do go further, always. God hears. He will answer. And in the end, it doesn’t really matter what anyone says, or what you think, or how you feel, or what’s logical and what’s not.
Because God has a Perfect Will for your life, and if you seek Him, He’ll keep you in that will. Some people stray from His Perfect Will. They listen to themselves and get into the world, and suddenly they stop to realize they’ve ruined everything. Made all the wrong decisions. Done all the wrong things. Even though they, perhaps, get right with God again, they can never find the Perfect Will. Too late. Done passed it and can’t get back, and even though God makes a new will for them, they’ve missed out on what His perfect plan might have been.
College. Boyfriends. Marriage. Jobs. Careers. A thousand decisions screaming for an answer, and a million people screaming advice, and a billion feelings screaming for clarity…
Even though you pray and still don’t know.
Even though it’s growing closer, and the crossroads is your next step.
Even though it’s hard and you just want a plan for your life. A good plan. The right plan. A plan that makes sense and reflects your dreams and serves your Savior.
Wait for God. Tell Him you’re waiting. Listen for His answer. Because amidst all the screaming, all the roar, all the whirlwind of your own emotions, the whisper of God can be heard. It, I’m confident, is louder than it all.
So, Lord, I’m waiting. I’m waiting on You.
